Activision Blizzard has released its first annual diversity report. In 2022, women and non-binary people made up 26 percent of the game studio and publisher’s total workforce, with employees from underrepresented ethnic groups around 38 percent. In both groups, this is an increase of two percent compared to 2021.
The report follows the company’s October 2021 commitment to increase the proportion of women and non-binary employees at Activision, Blizzard and King by 50 percent over the next five years. At that time, almost three quarters of the global workforce were men.
“The numbers representing diversity are important ,” said Chief DE&I Officer Kristen Hines, “but it’s about more than just numbers. Every employee should feel seen, heard and valued.” DE&I stands for diversity, equality and inclusion.
Diversity in the workforce and in the games
Hines emphasized that the company’s efforts also relate to the games and their audiences. She mentioned moderating game chats or the content of the games themselves. “We’re here to make great games, and one of our biggest opportunities to make a difference is the worlds and characters we create.”
