How to make video call on WhatsApp web from your PC

We are going to explain how to make video call on WhatsApp web from the PC, something for which we will use the WhatsApp Desktop application. After several weeks of waiting and beta versions, it has finally started to reach normal users. In this way, you will not depend on the mobile to make video calls or voice calls to a single user.

It is a fairly flexible function, since when a person calls you through WhatsApp, you can answer directly from the PC if it is more comfortable for you. In addition, when you call someone from WhatsApp Desktop, this person will also be able to answer you from their mobile phone. At the moment it is only something for individual conversations, not for groups.

Configure WhatsApp Desktop

In the event that you do not have WhatsApp Desktop on your computer, the first step is to download this desktop application. To do this, you can use the WhatsApp Desktop website to download it on Windows or macOS. You will also find it in the Microsoft Store of Windows 10 or the App Store of macOS.

Once you have it installed, open the WhatsApp Desktop application on your computer. The first thing to do is configure it, so when you open it, a QR code will appear to link the application to WhatsApp on your mobile. The process is exactly the same as that of WhatsApp Web, and you will have to always have your mobile close by.

What you have to do is go to your mobile and access the WhatsApp Web option. On Android, you have to click on the menu button with the three-dot icon at the top right and choose the WhatsApp Web option. On iOS, the option is within the settings.

When you enter the WhatsApp section of the mobile, a list will appear with the sessions started in the web client, and you will have to click on the Scan QR code option to open the WhatsApp camera. If you have no other sessions started, you will automatically go to this mode. A camera will open in which you have to point to the QR of the desktop application so that they link automatically.

Calls and video call on WhatsApp web Desktop

To use WhatsApp Desktop video calls or voice calls, the first thing you have to do is click on the chat where you want to start the call. When you enter the conversation, at the top right you will see the icons to make calls and video calls. Here, you simply have to click on any of the two options depending on which one you want to use.

When you click on one of the two options, you will initiate the call. Initially, if it is a video, you will be able to see your camera before the other person answers. Here, while you wait, you will also see some controls, such as activating or deactivating the camera or microphone.

You also have a three-point button that allows you to configure which camera or microphone you want to use, as well as the speakers you want to send the sound to. This has allowed us in this example to use Snap Camera, an application that is activated as an alternative webcam, but you can also switch between physical webcams if you have several connected.

And that’s it, once the other person picks up the call or video call from their WhatsApp Desktop or their mobile WhatsApp, you can talk to each other. The image of the other person will be adapted to the camera they use, which means that if you use the mobile you will see the image vertically, and you will always have available the camera or microphone configuration controls, in addition to the hardware selectors that we have seen before.
