The Google Maps team is testing a new dynamic that will improve the user experience during navigation.
A novelty that many users have already found in both the Google Maps app for iOS and Android and in the Android Auto application.
A new way of navigation in Google Maps
Some users have begun to notice that Google Maps automatically activates the 3D view during navigation, both from the mobile app and from Android Auto.
Yes, it is preparing the possibility of seeing 3D buildings when you activate the driving mode. Although we have had 3D View available on Google for a long time, it is not enabled automatically. To do this, we have to open the menu, go to “Map details”, and choose the 3D layer.
And on the other hand, it must be taken into account that it is currently not available while browsing. A situation that seems to change soon.
3D buildings and points of interest available all the time on Google Maps
As a user comments on Reddit, it does not seem necessary to activate anything in the Google Maps settings to have this new interface in driving mode, since it is enabled automatically with navigation.
On the other hand, another detail that has been mentioned is that the 3D View does not impair navigation during our journey, since the 3D buildings and landmarks are shown semi-opaque or transparent.
We can have a preview of this new Google Maps interface if we take a look at the screenshots shared on Reddit, taking into account that they correspond to the Android Auto application. However, this dynamic is also available for some users in the Google Maps app for iOS and Android.
It is a test that seems to have been in force since December, and that is spreading. The Google team has not officially mentioned this feature, so we will have to wait to see if it officially arrives in the Google Maps app soon.
