Mewtwo, probably still the strongest of all Pokémon, is one of the most mysterious pocket monsters in the series. There are numerous legends and rumors about Mewtwo – We have summarized the most exciting facts about Pokémon myths for you!
At the start of the Pokémon series, Mewtwo is by far the strongest Pokémon, the absolute boss without a weakness. In the game it was no different, there you ended up facing the top four and the champion, but only after the fight you could catch Mewtwo.
And although the Pokémon is the main villain in the first film, it quickly became a fan favorite. We have gathered some facts here that may not have been known to everyone. Following are the Pokémon myths you may have not known…
Fact # 1: Mewtwo’s DNA turns other Pokémon into beasts
In the gold and silver edition, the player could find an item in the place where Mewtwo had been a generation earlier – this item is called the Berserk gene. According to Detective Pikachu, the Berserk gene originated from rejected cells from Mewtwo and thus contains its DNA. If a Pokémon wears this item during a fight, the attacks will be much stronger, but the Pokémon will become confused over time. This shows that even the repelled cells of Mewtwo are incredibly powerful.
Fact # 2: It was born and never hatched
How Pokémon are conceived has been a mystery since the series began. In the games, the process is relatively simple: two Pokémon are handed over to the guesthouse and after a while you get a message that an egg is to be picked up. If the egg is carried far enough, it will hatch. The prerequisite for this process is that the given Pokémon correspond to the same egg group, which can lead to strange pairings.
Whatever the process, the Pokémon House diaries on Vermilion Island reveal that Mew gave birth to a child that scientists named Mewtwo. It is the only Pokémon that did not hatch from an egg.
Fact # 3: There are multiple Mewtwo
It’s hard to say how many Mewtwo there are in the Pokémon world. There are a number of games in which the legendary Pokémon could be caught, but it is unclear whether it was always the same. However, at least a second Mewtwo has been proven.
Both in the Best Wishes series and in the movie Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Revived, a second Mewtwo appears. It is not known where this Mewtwo came from and who created it.
Fact # 4: Mega Mewtwo is stronger than God
Arceus is the god of the Pokémon world. According to the Pokédex, it created the entire universe to replace nothing. When Arceus was introduced to the game, it was the strongest of the stats. It has now been trumped by Proto-Groudon and Ultra-Nocrozma. The strongest Pokémon are currently Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Mewtwo X. Only Mega Rayquaza can keep up with the two.
Fact # 5: Mewtwo cannot feel compassion
After Mewtwo was born, scientists genetically modified the Pokémon. Why the scientists did this is as little known as the way. In the process of making Mewtwo the strongest Pokémon of all time, the scientists wasted no time trying to make the Pokémon feel empathic. The Pokédex also says that Mewtwo cannot feel compassion.
Fact # 6: It can control other people’s feelings
Even if Mewtwo does not show feelings, it can control the feelings of others. In the musical Pokémon Live! Giovanni created a mechanical version of Mewtwo called MechaMew2. MechaMew2 was able to absorb all attacks and fire back at its opponent.
In the fight against Ash, Mewtwo comes to the trainer’s aid. It transfers happy memories from Ash into MechaMew2′s brain. This leads to a change of heart and MechaMew2 defeats Giovanni by self-destruction.
Fact # 7: Mewtwo is strongest when it is shy
Since Ruby and Sapphire, every Pokémon has a being that influences the status values of the Pokémon differently. A being always increases one value and lowers another. For Mewtwo, the being shy is best, because it intensifies special attacks.
Fact # 8: Mewtwo used a haunted ball before the attack
Not only is Mewtwo the strongest Pokémon, it’s also a trailblazer when it comes to attacks. In the first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo uses a haunted ball. An attack that was only introduced in the golden and silver editions a year later . Ho-Oh and Marill could also be seen in the anime before they appeared in the 2nd generation of games. The reason for this is that the anime progressed much faster than the game development.
Fact # 9: Mewtwo had a spoon fighting style
It’s hard to believe, but the Pokémon franchise was almost sued for spoons at one point. Uri Geller felt imitated by Kadabra and Simsala and therefore threatened legal consequences. This is also the reason why Kadabra later no longer appeared in the anime and also not in the card game.
The creators of the Pokémon Adventures Manga were probably not impressed and put a spoon in Mewtwo’s hand. Like Kadabra and Simsala, Mewtwo can channel his powers into a spoon. Mewtwo used the spoon technique in the fight against deoxys.
Fact # 10: The inspiration for Mewtwo came from Earthbound
The origin of Mewtwo lies in the character Giygas from the Earthbound games. Earthbound was a three-part RPG series from Nintendo that had a huge impact on Pokémon as many Earthbound developers later also worked on Pokémon. Giygas is the final boss from the first Earthbound game and has a lot of optical overlaps with Mewtwo and is its legitimate role model.
Fact # 11: Mewtwo cells can control humans
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Mewtwo was created by Blaine. Blaine was a secret member of Team Rocket, but didn’t have enough genetic material from Mew to create a full Mewtwo. This is why Blaine used his own body to connect with Mewtwo.
In time, Mewtwo took over Blaine’s body. Before Mewtwo could fully absorb its creator, however, Entei was removed from Blaine by the healing flames of Entei. After the separation, Mewtwo was completed by taking over the cells and was free for the first time.
Fact # 12: The Movie Mewtwo also appeared in the games
In the first Pokémon film, Mewtwo lived on a lonely island that was surrounded by a storm and was therefore only accessible to very few. In the games, Mewtwo can learn a variety of attacks, but none that could create a storm.
The movie Mewtwo was unique because it featured the hurricane attack. Only a few players have come into possession of this special Mewtwo. It was distributed at special events to promote Pokémon the movie: Genesect and the Legend Revived.
Fact # 13: It gathers its strength by standing still
Mewtwo may be the strongest Pokémon, but it doesn’t have a great passion for battle. Even if Mewtwo is completely numb, it is not after fights and demonstrations of force. Better to stay in a lonely cave all day. The reason for this emerges from some Pokédex entries that say it should stand as still as possible to gather its strength.
Fact # 14: Mewtwo has been optically adjusted
Over the years, some Pokémon have undergone major external changes. For example, Pikachu was relatively plump in Pokémon Yellow, Blue, and Red. The electric mouse is now much slimmer. Something similar happened to Mewtwo. The thighs and head in particular were much larger and thicker when Pokémon started than they are today.
Fact # 15: Mewtwo merged with Piepi
Due to the existence of Mew and Mewtwo (English: Mewtwo), fans have often speculated whether there is a third one: Mewthree. And indeed there is a third version.
In the Pokémon Pocket Monsters Manga, there was a fusion of Mewtwo and Piepi, who introduced itself as Mewthree. The manga is more like a joke. Later Mewtwo and Piepi compete against each other in a joke match, which reflects the entire content of the manga well.
Fact # 16: The Powerful Psycho Thrust
Mewtwo is one of the few Pokémon that has an attack just for itself, the Psychic Strike. There’s just one stupid thing about it. Mewtwo learns the attack at level 100, but the attack was first introduced in Pokémon Black and White, a generation in which you could not catch Mewtwo. So it is only possible to use this attack if you exchange a Mewtwo from another game. For example, from fire red or leaf green.
Fact # 17: Mewtwo is one of the few Pokémon with a birthday
It has been possible to hatch Pokémon since Gold and Silver, but Pokémon do not have a birthday. Such information cannot be found in the Pokédex either. Mewtwo is an exception. The diaries from the Pokémon House indicate that Mewtwo’s birthday is on February 6th. This day is celebrated by fans worldwide to this day.
Fact # 18: Mewtwo can speak
Mewtwo is one of the few Pokémon that can verbally communicate with people. It was first heard in the first Pokémon film. Mewtwo also had victory sayings in the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Melee. As in the film, Mewtwo speaks only about his own strength and the meaning of life.
Fact # 19: Mewtwo’s weight is a mystery
If one thing is hard to understand, it’s the weight of Pokémon. A tiny Larvitar is simply carried by Ash in his arms, but according to the Pokédex it weighs over 70 kilos. The numbers in Mewtwo are just as absurd. The Pokédex says 120 kilos, and yet Mewtwo is one of the lightest Pokémon in the Super Smash Bros series.
Fact # 20: Mewtwo took human lives
The Pokémon series always portrays that Pokémon have fun fighting among themselves, but Pokémon have hardly ever been seen to seriously try to harm people. Here, too, Mewtwo is an exception. With his psychic powers he destroyed the laboratory in which it was manipulated. At the time of the explosion, however, scientists were still in the house. Mewtwo has thus demonstrably ended human lives.
