Homemade Hologram with mobile phone

Did you ever dream of bringing holograms to life, just like in those futuristic sci-fi movies? Well, now you can, with just a few simple materials and your trusty mobile phone.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll take you through a step-by-step process of creating mesmerizing holograms using your mobile phone. No fancy equipment or complex techniques required – just a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of DIY enthusiasm.

Holograms are one of the most recurring fantasies of science fiction lovers. Can you imagine being able to project three-dimensional images in space, as if you were the protagonist of a futuristic movie?

Although this technology is not yet available to everyone, there is a simple and economical way to experiment with holograms using your cell phone and some simple objects that you probably have at home.

How to create a homemade hologram with your mobile

This is a trick called Pepper’s Ghost, a surprising optical illusion that has its origins in the 19th century. The scientist John Henry Pepper was responsible for spreading this illusion trick that today we can replicate with the help of a smartphone. We explain how it works and how you can surprise your friends and family with this fun activity, thanks to the instructions from HandicraftRecordBook.

The first step is to record a video of an object or person in front of a green or blue screen. The object or person should be contrasting enough to the background so that it can be easily edited.

Once you have the recorded material, the next step is to edit the video. There are many editing software options, but one of the easiest and most accessible is to use iMovie for iPhone. With this application, you can cut, join, add effects and music to the video easily and quickly.

One way to edit the video is to create a black image in the timeline and place the green screen clip on top of it. By tapping the details button, you can choose the Green/Blue Screen option to make the green background of the video transparent. You then adjust the corners of the clip to trim any areas you don’t want to show.

The third step is to create a cardboard box. To do this, measure the width of the mobile and cut the paper to that measurement. Then, the paper is folded to form a box and glued with tape. Then, the transparent paper is cut out and fixed inside the box, tilting it about 45 degrees.

The fourth step is to increase the brightness level of the smartphone to the maximum. This prevents glare and makes it easier to view the content.

To complete the experiment, you need to project the video onto the box. To do this, you must put the mobile phone inside the paper cube, with the screen facing up, then the transparent paper and then start playing the video:

Step 3: Build the Paper Box

  • Cut the paper to make a box the width of the mobile.
  • With the tape, glue each of the corners of the box.
  • Cut the transparent paper with scissors and place it at a 45-degree angle.

Step 4: Adjust the mobile
