Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek’s next-generation flagship will be renamed

Some time ago, Apple has taken the lead in showing the latest A15 self-developed chip through iPhone 13 and other products, which is still invincible. Google also released the first self-developed mobile phone chip Tensor. Although the focus is on AI and other aspects, the two 2.8GHz Cortex-X1 super cores are very powerful. However, the above two chips are basically self-developed and self-used chips. What really attracts everyone’s attention is the next-generation flagship products of Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Qualcomm has first revealed that it will hold a new Snapdragon Technology Summit around December 1. The industry believes that the successor of Snapdragon 888 will officially debut. The new product has always been thought to be named Xiaolong 898, but today suddenly there is news that the new generation of Xiaolong flagship has been officially named “Snapdragon 8 gen1”. Because Intel products have similar naming rules.

The long-rumored MediaTek Dimensity 2000 chip was also officially named, and news said it will be renamed “Dimensity 9000.” From the naming point of view, the two 2022 flagship chips can be said to have been messed up, and the cards are completely unreasonable. This will make users very uncomfortable and it is difficult to easily understand the specific positioning of the new chip.

The specific parameters are: Snapdragon 8 gen1: Samsung 4nm process, 1*3.0GHzX2 super large core + 3*2.5GHz large core + 4*1.79GHz small core, Adreno 730 GPU.

Dimensity 9000: TSMC 4nm process, 1*3.0GHzX2 super large core + 3*2.85GHz large core + 4*1.8GHz small core, Mali-G710MC10GPU.

Snapdragon 8 gen1 and Dimensity 9000 chips are also very similar in specifications. According to previous reports, both chips are built using the latest 4nm process, and both use the 1+3+4 three-cluster design supported by the X2 super core. Although they are all 4nm, it is generally believed that TSMC’s 4nm process is ahead of Samsung.

Therefore, the main frequency of the tri-core A78 of the Dimensity 9000 reaches 2.85GHz, and the main frequency of the tri-core A78 of the Snapdragon 8 gen1 is only 2.5GHz, which also leads to Dimensity The performance of the 9000 will be stronger than that of the Snapdragon 8 gen1, but how much the gap can be opened is still unknown for the time being.

This time, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 gen 1 are basically the same in core architecture, but they have a slight advantage in performance and power consumption. Chinese mobile phone manufacturers may use both chips on their flagship phones. It will provide an opportunity for MediaTek to break through in the high-end mobile phone market. Do you think which of these two high-end chips is better? Welcome everyone to leave a message in the comment area to discuss!
