How to connect to WiFi network in Windows 10 when nothing works

Everyone knows how to connect to WiFi network in Windows 10, but do we really know all the ways there are? That is, if the way we access the network on our Windows 10 computer in a normal way does not work, do we know any alternative to connect?

If something is clear, it is that all of us who have a computer know how to access the Internet, that is of course. But it can happen that we always use the same way and that suddenly, for whatever reason, it does not work.

At that time, many of us would be lost, since we have been connecting to the network in the same way for so long that we are unaware of other options to perform this task.

That is why today we are going to tell you the different places where you can access in Windows 10 to be able to connect to the Internet and, in this way, not have to depend on a single method.

Using the taskbar

This is the way most used by most users, also because it is the simplest, to connect to a WiFi network.

Connect to WiFi network in Windows 10
Windows 10 Taskbar

This method is done as follows:

  • We go to the task bar and on the right side we click on the network icon.
  • In the drop-down menu that appears, we choose the network we want to access and select Connect automatically.
  • Then we select Connect.
  • We enter the password of the network to which we are going to connect.
  • Now click on Next and then choose if we want the device to be discoverable or not.
  • From this moment on, the computer will be connected to the network and will have access to the Internet.

There is a way that access to the network is done when we tell you. This means that, if we are carrying out a task where we do not want the Internet to work, but later we will need it, we can program it to activate when we tell it.

To achieve this, you have to carry out these steps:

  • Click again on the network icon on the taskbar.
  • We disconnect the network and for that we click on the WiFi icon, so that it is no longer on, that is, it is not marked in blue.
  • Then you will see a drop-down, where you can reactivate the WiFi (which will no longer be in blue). We must click on the menu.
  • It is time to select the period of time after which we want to reconnect to the WiFi network.

This means that, if we choose an hour, after that time we will have a WiFi connection again.

We will not have to worry about anything, since this system is fully automatic and is very reliable.

Using the Settings menu

Let’s see another way that Windows 10 gives us to connect to a WiFi network.

This time it is through the Configuration menu of the operating system, a method that is not as handy as the previous one and that is why it is less used.

  • We go to the Windows Start menu and click on Settings or directly press the Windows key + I and thus we go to that menu immediately.
  • We enter the Network and the Internet.
  • We select the WiFi option from all the ones we see on the right side of the window.
  • Now click on Manage known networks.
  • In the next window we will see all the networks that are in the computer’s memory, but where we must click is Add a new network
  • We assign a name to the network, select the type of security in the drop-down menu and, finally, we write the security key to access said network.

  • At that moment we click on Connect automatically, and then click on Connect.
  • The last thing is to click Save

If we use the Control Panel

Not only are there two ways to activate a Wi-Fi network on the computer, we can also do it using the Control Panel.

A Windows option widely used for years, but lately it is quite neglected by many users.

  • We write in the taskbar, right in the area enabled for it, Control Panel.
  • As soon as we see the icon in the drop-down menu, we must press it to open said Panel.
  • Then we have to go to Networks and Internet.
  • Now we enter the Network and Sharing Center.
  • It is time to click on Set up a new connection or network.
  • In the window that has been launched we select Manually connect to a wireless network.
  • At this moment we write the name of the network, in the drop-down we choose the Type of security and it only remains to write the key of the network to which we want to connect.
  • We must also mark the options Start this connection automatically and Connect even if the network does not broadcast its name, although the latter does not matter if we do not mark it.
  • Now it only remains to connect to the network when it comes out and that’s it.

Using the Command Prompt

The last of the ways that we are going to tell you is the least, we could say, natural of all, since the Command Prompt comes into play, a part of Windows that many users have never entered.

This option is only valid for networks that we already have in memory of our computer, that is, it would not be valid to create a new connection. To connect with one of our networks we must follow these steps that we are going to tell you:

  • We go to the taskbar and write cmd in it.
  • When the Command Prompt icon appears in the pop-up window, we must press it to enter it.
  • Then time to type the following command and hit Enter: netsh wlan show profile
connect to wifi network
command to connect Wi-Fi network
  • Now we write another command and press Enter again: netsh wlan connect ssid = YOUR-WIFI-SSID name = PROFILE-NAME (We must be very clear that where it says YOUR-WIFI we must write the name of the connection and where it says PROFILE-NAME the profile name must be entered).
  • Once written, press Enter and it will directly connect to the network that we have set.

Once we know all the ways that Windows 10 offers us to connect a WiFi network, we will no longer have any problem in case one of them does not work at any given time.

We can always use some of the other options that you have seen in this article, since you already know them all.
