It happened to small-format PCs like laptops: until not long ago they were small in size but also in performance. That is no longer true, and today these computers can be really powerful, and the new Slimbook One proves it.
This Slimbook one reminds us a lot of Apple’s Mac mini because of its design, and in reality we are facing a direct competitor that can be governed by both Windows and Linux but that especially stands out for its processor, a fantastic AMD Ryzen 7 4800H.
Slimbook One Specification
We are facing a “little one” that as we said is only in size. Inside we have the guarantees offered by the powerful Ryzen 7 4800H, a CPU with Zen 2 architecture that has long proven that it is a guaranteed bet when it comes to obtaining great performance in practically any scenario.
This processor is accompanied by up to 64 GB of RAM (we have two slots to combine two DDR4 memory modules) and there are also good options in storage, since we can combine the M.2 slot with the space for a SATA drive whether it is traditional hard drive as if it is a SATA SSD drive.

The integrated graphics is the AMD Radeon Graphics Vega 7 that, without being able to aspire to the performance of the dedicated graphics, does allow us to play all kinds of video games without problems if we are careful with the resolution and the level of detail.
It is true that we are not facing a gaming team as such, but of course we will not have to give up that facet and popular games such as Fortnite, CS: Go or DOTA 2 can run without any problem with that integrated GPU, as demonstrated by external analyzes.
A compact, port-ridden design
As we said, the design of the Slimbook One is reminiscent to a certain extent of Apple’s well-known Mac mini, especially because of that absolute dominance of aluminum and that format that at just 20 cm on a side (and 5 high) offers us a really promising PC.
This design is however characterized by the presence of ventilation grills on the sides and on the top, something necessary to be able to keep temperatures at bay when we demand maximum performance from your processor.
In addition to that, what we do have is a real frenzy of connection ports. On the front we find two USB-2.0 ports and the power button, but it is the back that displays an arsenal of ports among which we find two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C, an HDMI and a DisplayPort.
This USB-C port is also capable of serving as a video output through a DisplayPort interface, which allows us to connect up to three monitors to this small computer, for example.
The network connector and the headphone and microphone ports are joined here to the pigtail connectors that we can use to extend the wireless coverage with two Wi-Fi antennas.
The Ryzen 4800H is a clever choice in the face of chip shortages
In Technoeager we have contacted those responsible for Slimbook, who a few months ago presented their KDE Slimbook with the same processor and who had supply problems due to the shortage of Ryzen 4000 processors that were extended to other manufacturers.
Will the same happen with the Slimbook One? That is precisely what those responsible for this firm want to avoid, who have preferred to opt for these Ryzen 7 4800H and not try to make the leap to the new Ryzen 5000 family, whose demand is very high.
Although these chips are even more advanced and promising, the situation in the market with the shortage of chips would have made it even more difficult to launch a product like this. The choice of the Ryzen 7 4800H therefore seems interesting when it comes to minimizing potential supply problems.
There is one more element of interest in these teams: as usual, Slimbook offers different options in terms of operating systems. We can find it without a pre-installed operating system, but they also prepare the Slimbook One with various Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Linux Mint, Mankaro, KDE Neon or Fedora.
In addition to that, it is possible to acquire these computers with Windows 10 Home or Pro pre-installed, and it is even possible to have a dual boot with Windows 10 and one of the aforementioned Linux distributions ready to be used at any time.
Slimbook One, price and availability
The new Slimbook One will be available in about a month, and they will do so for a price that starts at 599 euros.
That price is what will allow us to access the basic configuration with the Ryzen 4800H, 8 GB of RAM , 250 GB of M.2 NVMe SSD and with a pre-installed Linux distribution.
