Today we are going to discuss about failed social network or services that are not surviving as they were. These social sites used to be one of the most popular once. Different online services have been launched by different tech companies in different time after birth of internet. Tech companies had been competing for the best of their services. Most services are successful and some have been failed for long time. Tech companies changed names, sell services and at last shutdown the service. These are the 5 services which have been around long time which never be success and had to stop or need to stop in the future.

1. Google + :

Google launched it’s social networking service on June 28 2011. The experienced strong growth in its first some years as good choice of social networking for sharing ideas, articles, photographs, etc. Due to evolution other social networking services by different companies made google + service as unfit social network. People used other social networks than google +. It started losing it’s users and new users were unable to find satisfaction on this service. As Google + signups were accidental as it is feature of one google account for every product. The users engagement in the service is too low.

The average user on Google + is 3.3 minutes on the site while it’s competitor Facebook has 7.5 hours users engagement as of 2012 report. Google tried to change the way of Google+ is used. The functions like communication and photos were made standalone services. Several other changes were made on this service. It was again redesigned in November 2015 making new improvements.

2. Google Talk :

Google has developed different communication platforms . Gtalk, Google+ Messenger and Hangouts are some of its messaging apps. Gtalk is a communication tool developed by google. It was implemented in its different services before 2013. It is later replaced by another application called Hangouts. Hangouts can be used as video and voice chat. Google discontinued Google Talk on 2015. Later Google launched Google Allo for messaging and Google Duo for video calling. Hangouts was facing increasingly competition from services like Facebook Messenger, Whats App and others. Google announced to shutdown Allo service on 2019. Hangouts will be disabled by 2020. Google has failed after lunching same services by different name changing some of its features.

3. Internet Explorer:

Have you ever used Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser. If you had used windows PC you probably once used it. Microsoft started investing on this service since 1995. It was as the default browser in windows. Almost 95% web usage share was of Internet Explorer. The battle between web browsers began since 2004 when Firefox was launched in the year. Firefox started take over Internet Explorer. In 2008 another popular web browser take birth that was Google Chrome. Firefox and Chrome browsers overtake the Internet Explorer browser by 2009. After failure of this service Microsoft discontinued this service. But it is still maintained and available for all current OS windows 10.

Microsoft launched new browser named Edge browser for windows 10 users. Edge browser is also taken as improved version of Internet Explorer. Edge browser have gained some if the usage share than that of IE. But it has also lower share than of other browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Edge browser is improved version that comes with a lot of new features.

4. Yahoo Messenger:

It is another failed social network. When have you been on Internet? If you have surf the internet before 2010 and used popular social media service, than Yahoo! Messenger may be the one. Like today’s Facebook, Yahoo messenger was used widely in the world. It featured Chat rooms where we can view different chat rooms and connect and talk to anyone or on group on different topics. There was also the facility of private video chat rooms. That was cool service started on 1998. One can share files, inks, Voice and Video, games, etc. Youngsters used to be busy on Yahoo chat and found on different Cyber.

The usage of internet and birth of other social Medias make it difficult to gain users involvement. Yahoo changed its name and features on different time. It is permanently shut down on March 13 2018. New service called Yahoo! Together is launched as free messaging service available for different platform on October 2018.

5. Myspace:

This biggest failed social network was like today’s Facebook at it’s time. This is one of the older social networking sites. Myspace was the largest social networking site in the world before 2008. One user can share personal profiles, blogs, groups, photo, music and videos. Later Myspace was overtaken by Facebook. As Facebook offers more features on its social networking site, users are gained by Facebook. Myspace primarily focused on music and videos. Myspace continuously loss of users from 2008. Social Medias like Facebook and twitter gained popularity day to day. Myspace was unable to change its strategy of its service. It just relays on music and videos rather than other social networking features. The service is still available. It is currently acquired by Time Inc. and Meredith Corporation.
